Johanna Gurland Associates

Fundraising Consultants

An important focus of our work is on helping organizations identify and successfully solicit major donors. Our services include coaching staff and volunteers on conducting solicitation visits, prospect reviews and capital campaigns.

In 2008, Johanna Gurland Associates helped secure a $2 million gift for the National Trust for Scotland – their largest gift from an American to date.  This gift was complemented by an additional gift of $1.8 million made in 2009.

We have created and developed capital campaigns ranging from a $3.25 million campaign to protect and preserve the last living Shaker community (Maine’s Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Forest and Farm) to a $150,000 campaign to create a special endowment fund (Historic New England). For the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, she helped their $2.2 million capital campaign exceed its goal and reach $5 million!  Currently, the $1.25 million capital campaign for the Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation has passed the $1 million mark with over a year to go.

Working closely with the President and Founder of the Environmental Careers Organization (Boston, Massachusetts), Ms. Gurland developed the California Sustainable Communities Leadership Program (1999-2004).  This fellowship program received over $2 million in grants from local and national foundations.

For Emmanuel College (Boston, Massachusetts), we helped design the Carolyn A. Lynch Institute for Urban Education, which built on the college’s 75-year history of educating teachers for Boston’s public and parochial schools.  A grant for $2.1 million created the Institute in 2001.
